Of all rodents, rats are the easiest to adapt when it comes to food and habitat. That said, rats don't eat just anything. They still have food preferences, so the ingredients they like most can work well as bait placed in the traps sold at pest-control shops. Why Do Rats Eat Soap?

Foods That Work as Rat Bait

  1. Chocolate
Did you know that rats have a serious sweet tooth? When presented with different types of food, the rodent's top choice is usually something with a sweet flavor, such as chocolate. That makes chocolate a highly recommended bait for catching rats, because it produces results faster. Some people may think that using chocolate as bait is too expensive. However, you only need a small piece. Or, if you can't use chocolate, you can replace it with chocolate sprinkles, which are much cheaper.
  1. Peanut Butter
Besides chocolate, peanut butter also has a sweet flavor, so rats are sure to like it. Peanut butter is especially appealing because it combines sweetness with nuts. It's worth knowing that some types of rats are very fond of nuts. That makes peanut butter an excellent bait.
  1. Honey
Another sweet ingredient you can use in the glue traps is honey. There's no denying that honey has a very sweet taste. In fact, its sweetness is quite natural, which is sure to appeal to rats. Honey also has a distinctive sweet aroma that can be smelled from a distance. You only need a few drops of honey as bait. Place them in the middle of the prepared trap. A rat's sharp sense of smell will quickly find it, since the aroma of honey is quite strong. It won't take long before a rat gets stuck to the trap along with the honey.
  1. Meat
It's not only sweet foods that work. You can also use everyday ingredients such as meat as rat bait. Only a few pieces are needed, so you don't have to worry about running out of food. In this case, it's best to cook the meat first so its aroma is stronger and more enticing to rats.
  1. Ikan Asin (Salted Dried Fish)
It turns out it's not only cats that are crazy about the smell of salted fish. Rats like it too, and they will come running as soon as they catch its scent. However, if you want to use salted fish as bait on the glue trap, make sure the trap is placed out of reach of cats. Those are some food ingredients you can use to attract rats. Once a rat is lured in, it will get stuck in the trap and can be eliminated. For that reason, you can use Cap Gajah rat glue, which has extra strong adhesive power so rats can't escape once caught.
